Biography

Dave Mossing
Born in Regina, Dave started playing trumpet at age 7 when he joined the Regina Lions Junior Band. He continued to play in the band all through high school, as well as playing in many ensembles at Campbell Collegiate. Both of those music programs gave him many opportunities to travel and perform all over the world and provided an excellent foundation for his future musical endeavors!
In 1993, Dave moved to Montreal to pursue a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Performance at McGill University. Years later he returned there to study again, receiving a Masters in Jazz Performance. Along with working on his trumpet playing Dave honed in on his composition and arranging skills, studying extensively with the late Jan Jarczyk, Joe Sullivan and Kevin Dean. During this time he also had the opportunity to conduct and teach the McGill Jazz Orchestra #3. Dave continues to make Montreal his home, where he continues to create music with various ensembles. Over the years he has had the opportunity to perform, record, and travel with many great musicians including: Ranee Lee, Oliver Jones, Karen Young, the Montreal Jubilation gospel choir, Donny Kennedy sextet, the Juno award winning Christine Jensen Big Band, and the Joe Sullivan Big Band just to name a few!
Recently he has started his latest project , the Dave Mossing Quartet. Showcasing an all-new original repertoire, this group features world-renowned musicians Jean-Michel Pilc on the piano, Ira Coleman on the bass and Jim Doxas on the drums. Most recently the group recorded an album which is set to be released in fall 2025. Dave looks forward to continuing to develop this project and continue exploring the music with these fine musicians.
